25OH VitD // 25-Hydroxyvitamin D

Biomarker Therapeutic Areas:
Biomarker Matrices:

Vitamin D exists in two primary forms, Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) as the major circulating form and Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol). To exert their molecular action, these two forms are twice hydroxylated, on carbon 25 and subsequently on carbon 1. The single hydroxylated Vitamin D: 25OH VitD2/3, can be used as marker to assess the vitamin D level in patients (Christakos et al., 2010; Norman, 2008; Ross, A. Catharine 2011).

Bioclinica Lab employs a competitive CLIA assay designed to measure the two molecular forms of 25 OHVit D2/3 in serum after an extraction of vitamin D metabolites with acetonitrile.
