CTX-II // C-Terminal Telopeptide of Type II Collagen

Biomarker Therapeutic Areas:
Biomarker Matrices:

Type II Collagen is the predominant collagen in cartilage and is degraded by proteolytic enzymes secreted by the chondrocyte and synoviocytes. CTX-II peptides, released from the action of these enzymes, are eliminated in urine. Urine CTX-II is thus a biochemical marker of cartilage degradation (Garnero et al., 2000).

Bioclinica Lab employs a competitive assay for the measurement of CTX-II. This assay is  specific for the EKGPDP peptide derived from collagen type II C-telopeptide (monoclonal antibody MAb F2603) and did not recognize peptides from the N-telopeptide of collagen type II or from other collagen types (Christgau et al., 2001). The assay is designed to measure CTX-II in urine samples only.
