DPD // Deoxypiridinoline Crosslinks

Biomarker Therapeutic Areas:
Biomarker Matrices:

Deoxypyridinium (DPD), as Pyridinium Crosslinks (PYD), is a non-reducible crosslink of collagen. DPD is found mainly in bone and dentin. DPD is also found in soft tissues such as aorta and ligaments but as the turnover in these tissue is low, urinary excretion of DPD reflect mainly the bone turnover (Delmas et al., 1991; Seibel et al., 1992). Urinary excretion of DPD is a good indicator of bone resorption as it is not affected by diet and is not metabolized by the liver (Colwell et al., 1993; Eastell et al., 1997).

Bioclinica Lab employs two manual competitive enzyme-linked immunoassays for the measurement of free DPD or total DPD (free and peptide bound DPD, after hydrolysis) in urine.
