How Do You Get People to Join Clinical Trials? Show a Movie!

Many people don't understand what a clinical trial is or how one is conducted. This can make it hard to recruit and screen the hundreds and often thousands of patients necessary to find qualified individuals to participate in a given study.

Compass Research, recently acquired by Bioclinica to become part of Bioclinica's global Research Network, employs many tactics to recruit patients, but one of the most unusual may be showing movies. This tactic was showcased in a CenterWatch Weekly interview with Sean Stanton, CEO of Compass Research.

Compass has hosted many free movie events. They show movies that are geared to the senior population such as Still Alice, which is about someone who develops early-onset Alzheimer's disease. Following each movie, Compass provides a presentation about clinical trials and answers people's questions. The response to the movies and presentations has been tremendous: for one study, Compass was able to screen 3000 volunteers over 18 months – triple the study's goal.
